JULY 10, Bratislava (SK) > The Bratislava edition of the Central European Architecture Film Exchange

Central European Architecture Film Exchange – the Bratislava edition
July 10, 19.30
KC Dunaj, Nedbalova 3, Bratislava

The Bratislava edition of the Central European Architecture Film Exchange reveals the overlapping layers of contemporary post-socialist cities. The selected films help us understand the background factors of the present urban situation and understand how this situation evolved. The presented films share an important characteristic: neighborhoods and buildings are both presented by them from their users’ viewpoint. They capture fragments from the buildings’ lives, starting from their creation to their decline or present. The films, by penetrating the buildings in uncommon ways, offer an insight to architecture’s human dimension.

The Warsaw screening organized by the Central European Architecture Film and Video Exchange shows various cases and histories of modernist projects coming into being in the specific political and social realities of Central and Eastern Europe, as seen from a contemporary perspective. In these films – from Hungary, Poland, Czech Republic and Slovakia – directors ask questions about the ways architecture grows into the social fabric and create human relationships, about the relationships between people and about the reactions it engenders.

JULY 2, Budapest > Central European Architecture Film Exchange

KÉK presents:
Central European Architecture Film Exchange: the Budapest edition
July 2, 8pm, Trapéz padlás (1093 Budapest, Imre u. 2.)

On July 2, the Hungarian Contemporary Architecture Centre presents a selection of documentary films reflecting on the changing attitudes to prefabricated housing estates and apartments. In the decades between the 1960s and 1980s the mushrooming of industrially produced buildings changed the face of cities in Eastern Europe. These buildings were designed for cheap construction and extreme spactial efficiency, leaving little room for unplanned functions and activities. The selected films focus on users’ ways of inhabiting prefabricated housing estates, not only by adapting to their new living spaces, but also by diverting their logique and domesticating them.
