The Intelligent City: Data, Visualization and Urban Policies
Laboratoire SENSE/Orange Labs
June – September 2010
While the information infrastructure of the intelligent city has constituted one of the emergent subjects of urban studies, the analysis of the „information events“ of the city is often made from the viewpoints of design or media art, without necessarily being aware of the details of social dynamisms of the city. Technological experimentation sometimes results in forms and services that are incomprehensible and thus useless for a significant part of urban communities. The different approaches of the information city often disregard each other, ignoring the innovative capacity of artistic and playful uses of technology or real social needs. In this research I propose the explore ways experiments and innovation may be translated into policy, and the way policy can frame research.
