Central European Architecture Film Exchange

Selected architecture films from Central Europe

Architecture and the transformation of the urban landscape of the Post-socialist countries have been a very inspiring theme for video artists and filmmakers. Disappearing old neighborhoods, renamed streets, new districts, the conflicts and contrasts of the street or the newly found multiculturalism of Central European cities all provided sharp lens to interpret social changes in these societies. Videos, short and feature films do not only offer new viewpoints to look at these changes, they also help our understanding of urban transformation and architectural processes in the region. In preparation for this selection we invited organizations based in Central European cities and working with architectural and urban matters to collect films and curate screenings around the theme of architecture and the city. The cooperation consists of the establishment of a Central European Architecture Film Collection as well as of a series of screenings of experimental videos, documentary shorts and reportages from Bratislava, Brno, Prague, Cracow, Warsaw and Budapest.
